Last week I delivered my new corporate webinar “How to thrive in the New World of Work.” The contents of the webinar are relevant to every one of us.
In 2020 the world changed forever. What we knew as “normal” vanished overnight. For many people, there were some pros to the pandemic, but for most, there was uncertainty, volatility, chaos, ambiguity, fear, loss, health concerns and all of this was deeply unsettling and took some getting used to. Now as we head into the last 4 months of the year with ongoing uncertainty many people feel it’s time to settle into a new normal.
Now I have a bold suggestion… what if you can create a “new normal” world for yourself that is vastly better than the “old world”? Would that be something you’d be interested in?
I created the concept of “5 Thrive Drivers”: 5 things you can do to ensure that you create a better future for you and your loved ones.
1. Mastery of leadership… we are all leaders. Most importantly we lead ourselves. But we also step into leadership at times, maybe at work, with family or friends, in our community and so on.
2. Mastery of energy… our bodies are creating energy all the time. We can increase this energy and harness it so that we become the best version of ourselves.
3. Mastery of processes… we have processes for everything we do: Making a meal, putting on our socks, doing a project, exercising and so on. When we optimize our processes we become more efficient and effective in everything we do.
4. Mastery of communication… we humans are social creatures and when we can learn to communicate well with others, we can increase our influence and our ability to help and guide them. It becomes a win-win situation when we communicate well.
5. Mastery of work-life integration. My definition of work-life integration or work-life balance is “the amount of time you spend in a positive state doing things that are meaningful to you compared to the amount of time you spend doing things that put you in a negative state”. Take the example of someone who works 80+ hours a week, they love their work and have enough time (by their definition) to live a healthy, happy life and there are no down-sides, they are someone who has good work-life integration.
When we focus on and improve these “5 thrive drivers” we can dramatically improve our life. So my challenge for you this week is to score yourself (out of 10, 10 = I am amazing, 1 = I am very poor at this) on these 5 drivers and decide which you’d like to work on.
