We’re careering towards the end of 2021! How was it for you?
I am often heard to say “the past is history and you can not change it” when my clients are dwelling too much on the past. The past is also a “construct” of your mind, not a perfect record of what happened. However, every now and then it is really valuable to take a good look at your past. Why? Because there are valuable lessons for you about who you are, what life is all about to you, what drives you and your patterns of thinking and behaving.
I lead a goal-setting workshop last Saturday and we began with a review of 2021. I believe before you create a new vision of the life you want to be living and decide on what goals to focus on that you update your “model of the world”. “Model of the World” refers to the unique way in which an individual sees, interprets, and processes the world. Countless things make up your model of the world and it changes over time, especially with every major experience or life event. To learn more read my article https://www.drleonaurarhodes.com/when-you-look-in-the-mirror-who-do-you-see/
When it comes to vision and goal setting, your model of the world is crucially important because it determines what will make you happy, what will make you feel proud, successful, fulfilled, grateful, accomplished, energized, passionate, motivated, and what will bring you peace. And it is exquisitely unique to you and is constantly changing and evolving.
If you skip this part of the goal-setting process you may:
- Make the same mistakes over and over again
- Put a lot of work into your goals only to find they don’t make you feel happy, successful, or fulfilled
- You make progress but it is slow and change is not sustained.
- Fail to savor your success and wins – they’re like a banquet, stop and savor them, they are delicious!
So what did you learn in 2021? Write it down, you’ll process the learnings and remember it better.
